“It was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in early 2024.
