Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Championship in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of the previous year.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serve.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
He saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
